Arrest Made In LA Arson Case
A German man has been arrested on suspicion of starting more than 50 car fires in Los Angeles. It's been reported that Harry Burkhart, 24, was arrested due to resembling a "person of interest" after being pulled over for driving a van being sought by arson investigators. Burkhart is being held without bail.
Most of the arsons took place in San Fernando Valley, West Hollywood and Hollywood communities. Total damage caused by the fires is estimated to exceed $2 million. Los Angeles Fire Captain Jamie Moore said that firefighters have "not responded to any other suspicious fires since the man was detained".
Police believe the slew of fires may be related to an immigration dispute Burkhart was having over the status of his mother.
