Burbank Sells Peacekeeper Vehicle For $1
The City of Burbank has sold its armored Peacekeeper vehicle to the city of South Pasadena for $1.
The vehicle, first acquired as a surplus from the U.S. Air Force, has since been replaced by a BearCat SWAT vehicle. Members of the Burbank Police Department told the LA Times they were able to acquire the BearCat due to a grant provided by the Department of Homeland Security.
Until now, South Pasadena has relied on the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department to handle "tactical" operations. Some residents believe that since this has not happened once in the past six years, that the purchase was unnecessary.
South Pasadena Police Chief Joe Payne said that in instances where tactical operations are necessary, he'd prefer to "have his own agency in control".
